Lip balm is the first thing I realized I didn’t have to buy at a store and could actually make better at home. It’s addictive.

Ingredients:
2 tsp beeswax pastilles
2 tsp coconut oil (can also use almond, macadamia, avocado oils)
1 1/8 coco butter
3 tsp high quality olive oil
3 capsules of vitamin E
15 drops peppermint oil
Equipment: Pyrex measuring cup, shallow pan with water, chopstick or thin utensil for stirring, lip balm tubes or pots.
To do:
Measure out all ingredients and set them aside. Have all the tubes standing upright ready for the mixture with caps off, things go quickly once you start and you don’t want to overheat your ingredients. Place your Pyrex measuring cup into the shallow pan with water on medium high heat. Once the cup has warmed add the beeswax first and allow to melt. Once your beeswax has melted add all ingredients except the vitamin E and peppermint oil. Stir gently until thoroughly melted and mixed. Remove measuring cup from the hot water pan (careful not to burn yourself) and add the vitamin E and peppermint oil, mix well.
Quickly, before the mixture begins to cool, pour gently into the tubes, all the way to the top (it will recede a bit as it cools).
Allow to cool completely (I usually wait 15 minutes) and enjoy!

There are hundreds of recipes for lip balms from colored versions to various flavors and textures. I love the silky texture of this recipe. Once you’ve tried this simple recipe I encourage you to experiment with various oils, flavors and colors. You can even add some raw sugar to create a yummy lip scrub! Just make sure to add the sugar after heating, not during or it will melt. Have fun!
