Let me start by saying I’m not being paid to promote this oil, nor did I get it for a discounted price. This is my honest opinion and experience after using it for almost four years and so far, I’m not loyal to any particular brand.
I discovered Tamanu oil after moving to the country. I started making various beauty concoctions from my kitchen and somehow read Tamanu oil is great for repairing skin.
Anyone who lives on a farm knows skin repair is important, especially during warmer months when we constantly get bug bites and scratches. Enter Tamanu Oil. It has an earthy smell and a dark green hue until absorbed so it’s not the prettiest or best smelling oil I’ve used but it’s a must have for me.
If you mix it with other oils like I do then be aware it will change the color, texture and scent. Of course, it can be used alone and applied directly to the skin.
Tamanu oil is known to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is used for everything from bites and scratches to diaper rash and acne. I even found one site touting its use for anal fissures – although I haven’t tried it for that. Use your best judgment, of course.
The label on my latest bottle (pictured above) states: “Tamanu oil possesses a unique capacity to promote the formation of new tissue, thereby accelerating wound healing and the growth of healthy skin. This process of forming new tissue is known as cicatrization. Oil of Tamanu appears to be one of the most effective known cicatrizing agents in nature.”
I’m not saying this is a miracle oil but it’s worked wonders for all sorts of skin issues I’ve had and it’s my go to remedy for all scratches I get living this lifestyle. It seems to eliminate the chance of scars I used to get from chicken scratches. Decide for yourself and let me know how you like it.
