I love this time of year! The fall light is softer and it filters through the trees beautifully highlighting the autumn colors.
Next week I’m hosting the Oxford Moms & Tots group and thought it’s time to update the planters with the colors of the season. The weather today has been spectacular with the lows in the upper 50s and high around 80. And the ever-present breeze no longer feels like a hot blow dryer whipping my hair around. It feels more like nature lovingly caressing me…heaven.
I took the opportunity to replace the summer plants in the driveway planter with flowers more appropriate for fall. The mums in varying shades of autumn colors should make for a nice welcome for when the visitors arrive next week.
If you’ve ever tried to garden with farm animals around you’ll know it’s not the easiest thing to do. The animals are curious (nosy) and they want to look for bugs every time I turn over earth or remove old plants. It takes a bit of patience as I have to allow the chickens to inspect each hole.
The worst ones are the cats. For some reason they think it’s play time. Merigold feels it’s her business to oversee my work and occasionally hide and attack my hands. Sigh.
She attacked then retreated, as if I couldn’t see her through the grass. I got her back though. I simply stopped digging, cuddled her and smothered her with kisses. She deserved it.
