I love farm visits. Yesterday my little farm was visited by the Oxford Moms & Tots group and the animals loved it.
Right away one of the little boys saw Gemma Jane and yelled out “COW!”. Gemma Jane wasn’t offended by the label and later ate all the treats she could get her lips on while the kids obliged.
Luca has learned that moms always have food items around so he especially loves these visits. He promptly confiscated a pop tart from one unsuspecting child and tried his best to pilfer through the diaper bags and strollers. When he finally gave up he basked in the affections of the children. I wish he had a kid of his own but for now he’ll have to enjoy everyone else’s.
It’s really fun watching the kids enjoying themselves and asking questions. Some take to the animals easily and bond quickly with them. Others take time to trust the experience.
Every visit is different and the animals seem to take turns being the star of the show. Often it’s Rupert who is the center of attention, this time it wasn’t. I don’t know why particular animals seem to get the kids focus over others. Even Merigold the cat had her share of fans yesterday.
A couple kids informed me they are getting chickens soon. I’m not sure their mothers were on board with this but you know I’d encourage it!
I’m a big fan of parents who take the time to give their kids experiences in nature or teach them where our food comes from. The Oxford Moms and Tots group was great and are welcome to visit anytime.
