When I first moved into my new home I was told there was a feral kitten living under the house. No one in the neighborhood claimed it (there are a LOT of abandoned animals in the country). It took about 2 days before she transformed into a loving, amazingly affectionate kitten. I hadn’t had a cat in over 15 years and had never had an outdoor cat. All I did was make sure Gia had food, water and love. A couple months into this she disappeared and came back days later. Weeks later she had a huge belly so it was obvious kittens were imminent:
I was happy to experience kittens and was with Gia when she gave birth. She gave birth to 5 adorable kittens. One kitten in particular told me exactly who the father was – it was a carbon copy of my neighbors tom cat – a tabby without a tail.
I was worried I couldn’t find homes for the kittens. I kept one (Merigold) and put the word out about the others. About this time my step mom invited me to dinner with friends. One of the women at dinner brought up someone named Morgan and mentioned he liked cats and was about to get more for his ranch. My ears perked up at this. I told her I had kittens that would be weaned in a few weeks. She said she would love to show pictures to Morgan. “Morgan” was Morgan Freeman, the talented actor.
I sent her pictures. She wrote back and told me Morgan named them “Ike” and “Tina”.
A couple weeks later I found myself delivering two cuties to Morgan Freeman’s Mississippi home, less than 30 minutes from my little place.
I arrived at the big iron gates of his beautiful Mississippi ranch and called for access. Unfortunately, Mr. Freeman wasn’t home. I was told he was in a meeting with Johnny Depp… A celebrity experience of any kind was the last thing I expected from my move to Mississippi.
I met some of his staff and handed the kittens off to his assistant. Being true barn kittens they wasted no time getting into everything. After a quick tour I was on my way. I couldn’t have asked for a better home for Gia’s kittens.
A few months later I met Mr. Freeman’s girlfriend while having cocktails in Oxford. She made a comment about his getting kittens that are CRAZY. They were always trying to climb on things and get into the house. Welcome to the kitten phase – which can last a couple years.
Lucky, lucky cats.
