Excursions with My Entourage

Daily Life | February 19, 2018

We finally had a day without rain.  I decided to take the goats into the forest to play and search for early greenery. The turkeys, geese, Luca and the cats trailed along behind us. They all seem to love adventures. We have to be the oddest entourage in the woods.

I love seeing the geese with their long white feathers in stark contrast to the darkness of the woods, there’s a magical feel to it.

The cats tend to scamper and stalk us from tree to tree, staying as elevated as possible, away from the damp ground.

The turkeys walk so quietly through the dead leaves that even when I stop to listen I still can’t hear them walking around as they peruse the local fare. For large birds they have a dainty way of walking sometimes.

Luca comes and goes. As things catch his attention he takes off in pursuit of things we can’t see.

Of all the animals, Rosamond loved it most. All the downed trees to climb and water to leap over was like having her own personal obstacle course.

Her mother, Maybelle, on the other hand was perfectly happy following directly behind me. She knows the drill. Each spring she gets first dibs on the honeysuckle vines I can reach to pull down. It’s her favorite part of the forest feast.

Now that daffodils, early vines and tiny bits of grass are returning to life I hope it’s a sign winter weather is starting to lose its grip on us…hopefully.
