I’ve seen my animals eat many odd things. Gemma Jane (one of my goats) loves to eat spider webs and feathers. She walks around in the mornings and rips down any spider web she can reach. Unfortunately for the chickens and turkeys she prefers feathers straight off the bird. If a chicken gets too close she will pluck a feather out of the surprised bird and eat it whole. Weird.

Goats do eat homework.
I was told geese eat vegetation – mostly grass – not mine. I have a video of my Toulouse geese fighting Luca for a deer leg (they do a great job of keeping grass trimmed as well but they love meat). The turkeys and chickens also love raw meat. Deer carcasses don’t last long around here.
When I first got goats I noticed I was missing a window screen on the barn. I couldn’t figure out why anyone would steal such a thing. Then I caught Maybelle standing by the other screen. I watched her strip the screen and eat the whole thing before I could get to her.
You’d think there would be a lot of goat poop around here. There isn’t. The chickens eat it. I guess you could say we recycle.
All the animals get plenty of food and natural supplements, like Thorvin kelp. Despite being healthy and having nice coats and feathers some individuals simply like to eat odd or disgusting things. I’m rarely surprised by what I find them eating anymore. Maybe this place will make me a farm girl yet.
